Mill Bay and Shawnigan Lake fire crews respond to a garage fire Monday morning. Two cars and a boat were destroyed in the blaze.

Fire officials are investigating what caused a garage shop to go up in flames early Monday morning in Cobble Hill.

Mill Bay fire chief Ron Beck said they were called just after 5 a.m. to the garage on Cobble Hill Road and found it was fully involved.

Beck says no one was in the building when the fire started and there are no injuries.

The fire closed traffic for a couple hours between Shawnigan Lake Road and Lovers Lane/Chapman Road while crews worked to contain the fire.

Beck says two vehicles and a boat were destroyed in the workshop fire.

The fire chief added there were minor explosions with a propane and acetylene tanks in the garage, and other flammables common in auto workshops.

Shawnigan Lake fire personnel also attended.

Authorities are working to determine the cause of the fire and Beck says it is too early to determine the value of property lost.
