The public is invited to provide recommendations on proposed catchment border changes in the Greater Victoria School District.

It is the first phase in the consultation process, with an online survey available to the public, and is available until 4 p.m. on Nov. 30.

The survey is also available in print and translated into five different languages; Spanish, Filipino, Arabic, Mandarin and Punjabi.

They are available at the district board office at 556 Boleskine Road.

The district says it is facing pressure because of increasing enrolment and limited space in some of its schools and is trying to align registration with each schools’ capacities.

Enrolment projections estimate an additional 1,800 students in the district over the next 10 years and some facilities are already full.

Superintendent Shelley Green said the district saw enrolment decline for many years, which allowed students the flexibility to transfer across catchment boundaries and attend a school of their choice.

But with significant growth, the district says it has to balance registration with the space available at each catchment school.

In 2017, the Board of Education approved student enrolment priorities that took effect this school year.

Survey results will be used for recommendations to the school board for proposed boundary changes.

Early in the new year, the consultation process will include open houses and consultations.

The board is expected to determine new catchment boundaries in the Spring and be implemented in September 2020.
