A sports complex in Campbell River is set to reopen following months of closures.

The Sportsplex, located on South Alder Street, will reopen on Oct. 31, according to a news release from the City of Campbell River. The facility had been closed since May for repairs.

Fitness classes, programming and rentals will once again be offered by the city following the Sportsplex’s reopening.

To celebrate the reopening, the City of Campbell River all programs and services will be free on Oct. 31 and there will be a fireworks display at night.

“To say a great big thank you for your patience during the temporary Sportsplex closure, all programs and services will be free for opening day, October 31. The day will end with a fireworks display brought to the community by the No. 2 Hall Firefighters Association, so stop by the Sportsplex and enjoy,” Robin Mitchell, recreation and culture manager, said in a press release.

However, due to delays in completing repairs stemming from supply chain issues, the weight room and sports courts remain closed until further notice. Additionally, the weight room inside the Community Centre will close on Oct. 23.

The aim is to have everything reopened by the end of November, according to the municipality.
