UPDATE: Campbell River RCMP says a man is dead, and a woman was taken to hospital following a shooting incident in Campbell River on Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP say officers responded to the area of Upland Drive and Robron Road to a report of a shooting.

Police say the man’s death is from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“There is no ongoing threat to public safety,” said Campbell River RCMP Cst. Maury Tyre. “Our officers will be continuing the investigation through the night and we will provide the public with further information when it is prudent to do so.”

A spokesperson with British Columbia Emergency Health Services first confirmed the double shooting to CHEK News, saying paramedics were called at 3:37 p.m. Tuesday.

Campbell River RCMP says they have dispatched victim services to help families and are asking people to avoid discussing or posting photos about the incident on social media channels to allow the families to privately grieve.

The shooting reportedly took place at an apartment complex on Robron Road and Upland Drive. (OpenStreetMap)
