Water has been restored to the Oak Bay residents at an apartment building on Bowker Avenue after a water main burst earlier in the day.

Daniel Horan, director of engineering services for Oak Bay, said a water leak was detected on Bowker Avenue between Cadboro Bay Road and Eastdowne Road at around 5 a.m. The water was shut off after firefighters and Oak Bay crews responded.

Crews were able to dig down at around 10:30 a.m. and determined that an aging water main servicing the apartment building at 2233 Bowker Avenue had burst.

A portion of the pipe was replaced.

Water was shut off for residents on Bowker Avenue between Cadboro Bay Road and Eastdowne Road but only the apartment building was affected as of 3:45 p.m. By 5:30 p.m., water had returned to residents in the apartment building.

There was also some damage to a few houses across the street from the apartment building due to flooding from the water leak.
