A B.C. Ferries vessel working the Brentwood Bay to Mill Bay route was delayed Saturday morning, after running over a prawn trap line.

Spokesperson Deborah Marshall says luckily it did not get stuck in the motor vessel Klitsa’s propellor but still got caught on the ferry and had to be removed.

The ferry was further delayed as crews also had to make sure the line did not get tangled in the propulsion system.

“We know people want to do their fishing, but please stay away from the ferry lane,” Marshall said.

“[It] can cause quite a bit of damage, and divers would have had to remove the line.”

Fishers are asked to check their nautical maps to avoid ferry routes.

The incident took place around 10:30 a.m. and resulted in almost an hour delay.
