B.C. reports 428 new cases of COVID-19, nine cases in Island Health

British Columbia health officials reported 428 new cases – including nine in Island Health – and eight deaths from COVID-19 on Tuesday.

British Columbia health officials reported 428 new cases – including nine in Island Health – and eight deaths from COVID-19 on Tuesday.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. climbs to 54,629 while the province’s death toll now stands at 945.

Of the new cases reported, 90 were recorded in Vancouver Coastal Health, 223 were in Fraser Health, nine in Island Health, 61 in Interior Health, and 45 in Northern Health.

There are 6,472 currently active cases in the province, 367 people in hospital — 77 of whom are in intensive care — and 8,596 people under active public health monitoring due to possible exposure to an identified case.

A total of 5,915 tests for COVID-19 have been conducted in B.C. over the past 24 hours.

On a positive note, 45,999 people in B.C. have recovered from COVID-19 and more than 28,209 people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Island Health

With nine new cases in Vancouver Island, the total number of cases reported within the Island Health region surpassed 1,000 on Tuesday.

According to data available on Island Health’s website, there are currently 122 active cases on Vancouver Island – 53 on southern Vancouver Island, 40 on central Vancouver Island and 28 on northern Vancouver Island.

There are 10 more active cases in central Island and three more active cases in north Island since the last update on Jan. 4. Meanwhile, the number of active cases in south Island remains unchanged.

Over the course of the pandemic, there have been 1,001 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported within Island Health — 352 in the south Island, 426 in the central Island, and 223 in the north Island.
