More than a dozen people in British Columbia have died from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
B.C. health officials reported 566 new cases of COVID-19 – including 11 in Island Health – and 16 deaths on Tuesday.
The total number of cases in B.C. climbs to 38,718 while the province’s death toll is now at 543.
Of the new cases, 297 were recorded in Fraser Health, 136 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 45 in Island Health, 74 in Interior Health, and 48 in Northern Health.
There are currently 9,315 active cases in the province, 352 people in hospital – 74 of whom are in intensive care.
Since the pandemic began, there have been a total of 2,112 people hospitalized and 27,897 recoveries in B.C. Health officials did not disclose the number of people currently under active public health monitoring today. However, yesterday, there were 10,747 people under public health monitoring.
Of the nearly 39,000 confirmed cases in B.C, nearly 8,900 of them have been in people between the ages of 20-29, the most of any age bracket listed on the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control’s website.
Island Health
There are currently 207 active cases – 69 on southern Vancouver Island, 106 on central Vancouver Island and 32 on northern Vancouver Island.
Over the course of the pandemic, the Island Health region has reported 735 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Of those 234 are in the south Island, 329 are in the central Island, and 163 are in the north Island.
Southern Vancouver Island includes the Greater Victoria region, Southern Gulf Islands and the Port Renfrew area.
Central Vancouver Island includes the Cowichan Valley, Duncan, Nanaimo, Parksville, Port Alberni and Tofino areas.
Northern Vancouver Island goes from the Comox Valley to Port Hardy but also includes surrounding areas like Alert Bay and Sointula.
