Health officials in British Columbia have reported new 862 cases and seven deaths from COVID-19 since their last update on Tuesday.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. climbs to 121,751 while the province’s death toll now stands at 1,546.

Of the new cases, 200 were recorded in Vancouver Coastal Health, 557 were in Fraser Health, 25 in Island Health, 54 in Interior Health, and 26 in Northern Health.

There are currently 8,906 active cases in the province, 483 people in hospital — 164 of whom are in intensive care — and 13,135 people under active public health monitoring due to possible exposure to an identified case.

A total of 111,039 people in B.C. have recovered from COVID-19 while more than 1.45 million doses of vaccine have been administered province-wide.

On a positive note, people 30 or older are able to register for vaccine.

Today’s figures were released in a statement to the media. Data regarding variant cases in British Columbia was not provided in today’s update.

Island Health

There are currently 376 active cases on Vancouver Island active — a decrease of 54 cases since Monday — according to the latest data available on BCCDC’s website.

Thirty-one people are currently hospitalized due to the coronavirus, four of whom are in critical care.

A total of 924 tests for COVID-19 were performed on the Island in the past 24 hours.

Over the course of the pandemic, the Island Health region has reported 4,395 cases and 33 deaths while 210 people have been hospitalized and 3,982 people have recovered.

Meanwhile, Island Health reported 307 active cases on Vancouver Island in its latest dashboard update.

Of those active cases, 188 are in the South Island, 84 are in Central Island, and 35 are in the North Island.

Island Health’s data often lags behind the BCCDC’s data due to a “difference in timing of reporting across laboratory and public health data sources.”

Southern Vancouver Island includes the Greater Victoria region, Southern Gulf Islands and the Port Renfrew area.

Central Vancouver Island includes the Cowichan Valley, Duncan, Nanaimo, Parksville, Port Alberni and Tofino areas.

Northern Vancouver Island goes from the Comox Valley to Port Hardy but also includes surrounding areas like Alert Bay and Sointula.
