Barn goes up in flames in Cowichan Valley fire

Fire officials are investigating a barn fire that erupted in the Cowichan Valley on Friday evening.

The fire was reported around 7 p.m. from a home along Richards Trail north of Duncan.

Two people who were inside of a home on the property when they noticed the fire coming from the detached barn and called first responders.

Firefighters from North Cowichan and Maple Bay responded to the blaze.

While the fire was extinguished, the barn is considered a total loss, according to North Cowichan assistant fire chief Jason deJong.

No one was injured in the fire, according to deJong. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
