B.C. reports 75 new COVID-19 cases, one on Vancouver Island

British Columbia is reporting 75 new cases of COVID-19 for the entire province with three additional deaths in that span.

Of the 75 new cases, one is linked to the Island Health region.

Dr. Bonnie Henry says that 113 are in hospital with 34 people in critical care as a result of the virus. There are currently 1,111 active cases in British Columbia.

Since Wednesday’s numbers, there have been 17 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 44 in the Fraser Health region, one in the Island Health region, 12 in the Interior Health region, one in the Northern Health region.

There were three additional deaths related to the virus on Thursday. This brings the provincial death total over the course of the pandemic to 1,747.

Also as of Thursday, the total number of cases in British Columbia over the course of the pandemic has reached 147,346.

Health officials also said, to date, 4,652,087 doses of all three COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the province, 1,122,024 of which are second doses.

“Getting vaccinated is your ticket to travel and safe social connections. It is also our shared path to putting COVID-19 behind us as soon as possible. Let’s get moving forward to the brighter days ahead,” reads a joint statement from Dr. Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

B.C. health officials say that 77.5 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 76 per cent of those 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

In addition, 25.9 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 24.2 per cent of those 12 and older have received their second dose.

Island Health

According to the latest data provided by Island Health, there are currently 25 active cases on Vancouver Island.

Of the active cases, 9 are on southern Vancouver Island, 15 on central Vancouver Island and 1 on northern Vancouver Island.

Southern Vancouver Island includes the Greater Victoria region, Southern Gulf Islands and the Port Renfrew area.

Central Vancouver Island includes the Cowichan Valley, Duncan, Nanaimo, Parksville, Port Alberni and Tofino areas.

Northern Vancouver Island goes from the Comox Valley to Port Hardy but also includes surrounding areas like Alert Bay and Sointula.

Over the course of the pandemic, the Island Health region has reported 5148 cases.
