“This fall and winter, we will be facing two health challenges – the usual respiratory season as well as COVID-19. What this means is that we have to put measures in place now to ensure our health-care centres, communities and all of us are ready for what may be ahead,” Henry and Dix said in Wednesday’s statement about the COVID-19 numbers.

Earlier Wednesday, Henry, Dix and B.C. Premier John Horgan unveiled the province’s fall and winter pandemic plan, which involves ramping up COVID-19 testing, contact tracing and a campaign to administer almost two million flu shots.

The province’s health officials say they have prepared the province for COVID-19 scenarios ranging from low to exceptional outbreaks and they are confident the health system can meet the challenges.
