All three Capital Regional District electoral areas up for election

The three electoral areas in the Capital Regional District are up for election.

Advance voting will take place on Oct. 5 and 12 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. General voting day on Oct. 15 will have the same hours. Each electoral area has different voting locations outlined below.

All areas have the option to vote by mail.

Each electoral area will have one director elected.

Voters will also have a chance to vote for school trustees in the Gulf Islands School District or the Sooke School District, depending on where they live.

In electoral area F, Salt Spring, advance voting will take place at:

  • Salt Spring Island Community Gospel Chapel
  • Salt Spring Island Public Library
  • Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian Church

On Oct. 15, voting will take place at the same locations with the addition of Salt Spring Island Fulford Hall – Seniors Centre.

Incumbent Gary Holman is seeking re-election, and Jesse Brown and Kylie Coates are seeking to be elected.

Salt Spring will also have a referendum question on establishing a local community commission. Learn more about the referendum question here.

Electoral area G, Southern Gulf Islands, will have advance voting at:

  • Galiano Lions Hall
  • Mayne Island Community Hall
  • Pender Islands School
  • Saturna Recreation Centre
  • Saanich Peninsula Presbyterian Church

On Oct. 15, voting will take place at the same places with the addition of Piers Island Fire Hall.

Two people are seeking the seat – Paul Brent and Ben McConchie.

The Southern Gulf Island voters will also vote on a referendum question on establishing an integrated transportation service. Learn more about the referendum question here.

Juan de Fuca electoral area H will have advance voting at the following locations:

  • JDF Administration Building in Sooke
  • Sooke School District #62 Office

On Oct. 15, voting will take place at:

  • East Sooke Community Hall
  • JDF Administration Building
  • Malahat Fire Hall
  • Port Renfrew Community Centre
  • Shirley Community Hall
  • View Royal Elementary School
  • Willis Point Community Hall

There are four people seeking to be the director of electoral of Juan de Fuca – Derek Bishop, Shaunna Salsman, Sandy Sinclair, and Al Wickheim.

In 2018, 6,796 people voted in the election for a voter turnout of 41.9 per cent.
