The Ministry of Environment and Island Health have ended the air quality advisory for Duncan and the Cowichan Valley.

The advisory was issued earlier this week due to high concentrations of fine particulates. There was also an open burning restriction in effect for the Cowichan Valley within 15 kilometres of Duncan City Hall.

Officials say open burning may now be done without a permit or approval from the Ministry of Environment, as long as the activity complies with the Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation,
Environmental Management Act.

All open burning must also comply with municipal open burning bylaws in the Cowichan Valley.
