After nearly two days of search and rescue efforts, the woman who went missing on Monday evening near the Tofino Airport has been found safe.
“The woman was located alive just before 9:50 this morning. Cold, wet but a great outcome,” said Paul Berry of the Comox Valley Search and Rescue (SAR).
Members with the Westcoast Inland Search and Rescue Society, Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue, and other rescue organizations had been searching for the 55-year-old female mushroom picker since Monday night when she went missing.
Last seen wearing only a T-shirt and shorts, rescuers were worried about her safety as the area was set to expect heavy rains and high winds the night she went missing.
“She was supposed to be back last evening and had not been seen last night and did not return,” he said on Tuesday. “A ground search was conducted last night but yielded nothing. Members from neighbouring SAR’s including the Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue are being flown into the area to help look for the missing woman.”
