Oak Bay Police handed out two fines to a driver who had some mismatched licence plates last week.

A 79-year-old man driving a red 1990s Mazda MX5 on July 12 was stopped at Oak Bay Avenue and Yale Street after an officer noticed he had two different licence plates, according to police.

Upon closer inspection, police say, the officer found the front licence plate did not have valid insurance, but the rear plate did.

The driver was fined two tickets, one for having no insurance at $598, and another for the wrong number plate at $109, according to police.

The plates were seized and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
