Strong winds hitting the south coast Saturday have prompted more B.C. Ferries Cancellations on some routes.
For Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay the following sailings by the Queen of New Westminster are cancelled:
- 12 p.m. departing Tsawwassen
- 2 p.m. departing Swartz Bay
- 4 p.m. departing Tsawwassen
- 6 p.m. departing Swartz Bay
More cancellations are also in place for North Gulf Island routes between Denman and Hornby, and Quadra and Cortes Islands.
The triangle run between Port Mcneill, Alert Bay and Sointula is also facing cancellations.
B.C. Ferries predicts that other routes may also get impacted between Comox and Powell River, and the call for cancellations for that route may come later this afternoon.
“We dont make the decision lightly [for cancellations], we know the decision impacts people but it is for safety,” said B.C. Ferries Spokesperson Deborah Marshall .

The cancellations follow several wind warnings from Environment Canada predicting heavy sustained winds on Saturday.

On Thursday service to-and-from Tsawwassen for Swartz Bay, Duke Point and the Southern Gulf Islands was cancelled.
The Departure Bay-Horseshoe Bay, Comox and Powell River, Hornby Island and Denman Island, Texada Island and Powell River, and Quadra Island and Cortes Island routes were also all impacted.
