More than 307,000 new COVID-19 cases reported worldwide in one day

A record number of new coronavirus cases were reported on Sunday.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there were 307,930 new coronavirus cases reported worldwide over the past 24 hours, the highest one-day increase in new cases ever recorded. The staggering number of new cases brings the global total to 28.6 million while the death toll climbed to 917,417 after 5,537 new deaths were reported to the health organization in the past 24 hours.

Data available on the World Health Organization’s website shows that India, the United States, Brazil, Spain, Argentina, and France had the highest numbers of new infections in the past 24 hours.

India reported 94,372 cases, followed by the United States with 45,523 new cases, Brazil with 43,718 new cases.

Spain reported 12,183 new cases – the highest one-day increase the European nation has ever recorded.

Argentina reported 11,507 new cases on Sunday, the fourth straight day the South American country has recorded more than 11,000 new cases.

France, meanwhile, reported 9,641 new cases of the deadly virus. The country, like Spain, has seen a sharp rise in new COVID-19 cases lately.

Canada reported 702 new cases and no new deaths, according to WHO.
