Two communities on Vancouver Island are among the top 10 places to retire in Canada, according to realty group Sotheby’s.

B.C.’s capital, Victoria, and the seaside community of Parksville were highlighted in Sotheby’s International Realty list, which was released on Feb. 16.

Victoria was praised for its “mild climate, picturesque beaches and ocean views,” while also still having a vibrant community.

The realty group also said Victoria was a great location for people seeking an active lifestyle, and says golfers will be pleased with the city’s range of different golf courses.

Parksville is ‘Canada’s retirement capital’

Sotheby’s says Parksville shares many of the qualities that Victoria does, including a mild climate and access to parks and outdoor activities.

However, the realty group also notes that Parksville has the highest concentration of seniors per capita, and that it’s sometimes referred to as “Canada’s retirement capital.”

Its placement by the sea also means kayakers, boaters and other ocean-lovers will be right at home in Parksville.

Sotheby’s did not give communities a numbered rank on its list, instead only saying that the list covered the “top 10 places to retire in Canada.”

Other cities on the list include Quebec City, QC – Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON – and Fredericton, NB.

The full list can be read on the Sotheby’s International Realty website.
