A Greater Victoria municipality has been named one of the best places to live in all of Canada, according to moving comparison website MovingWaldo.

On Jan. 4, MovingWaldo released its list of the top six best places to move in the country, based on three core categories: safety, affordability and quality of life.

Based on those three metrics, MovingWaldo says the second best place in Canada is Oak Bay.

The sleepy South Island municipality was praised for its beaches and seaside views, relatively easy walkability and the “Edwardian architecture” of many homes.

“Locals love relaxing at Willows Beach, hiking at Cattle Point or playing golf at the Victoria Golf Club,” reads MovingWaldo’s description of the community.

The website also described Oak Bay as a very safe community, pointing to its crime severity index of 29.2, well below the national average of 78.1 in 2022, according to Statistics Canada.

Oak Bay came second on the list, just behind Wellington County in Ontario.

MovingWaldo says its overall safety, low unemployment rate and easy access to other parts of the province make it a prime spot for people looking to move.

It adds that Wellington County has a wide variety of parks and green spaces, as well as trails for cycling and hiking.

The six best places to live in Canada in 2024, according to MovingWaldo, are:

  1. Wellington County, Ont.
  2. Oak Bay, B.C.
  3. LaSalle, Ont.
  4. Lévis, Que.
  5. Burlington, Ont.
  6. Edmundston, N.B.
