Oak Bay war veteran John Hillman has officially walked 101 laps around his home, and he’s done it ahead of schedule.
On Saturday morning, the 101-year-old veteran of the Second World War walked the final six laps around the courtyard of the Carlton House in Oak Bay. By doing so, he officially achieved his goal of walking 101 laps around the courtyard.
Hillman had been walking five laps around his Oak Bay residence each day since May 4 until he reached the 101 mark in an effort to raise $101,000 for Save the Children Canada’s COVID-19 Relief Fund. He had given himself until May 30 to achieve both goals.
A Burma Star holder, Hillman already surpassed his fundraising goal on May 8. As of Saturday at 12:30 p.m., 101-year-old had raised $140,346 according to his fundraising page.
