A zodiac boat, along with several outboard motors, has been stolen from a non-profit youth organization in Saanich.

Saanich Police have released that the boat and motors were stolen from a Scout hall at Gyro Park last week, leaving the non-profit group without any motors or zodiacs to run their youth programs.

According to Saanich PD, the incident is believed to have occurred last week sometime between April 19 and April 20.

Police say unknown suspects appeared to have broken into the fenced compound at Gyro Park, owned and operated by the 12th Garry Oak Sea Scouts.

Four small outboard motors were taken, estimated to have a total value of $11,700. In addition, an 11.5’ rigid hull inflatable zodiac was taken as well, valued at $3,500.

Below is a detailed list of the stolen items:

  • 1996 Honda 8HP (possibly white/red/black)
  • 2003 Honda 15HP (silver)
  • 2010 Suzuki 9.9HP (black)
  • 2013 Suzuki 9.9HP (black)
  • 2009 11.5’ 350 RIB HYP

This marks the second break-and-enter at this location in recent months as back in September 2020, two zodiacs were also stolen.

Police say the investigation from the first break-and-enter has yet to yield any suspects.

“We are asking the public not only for information on the theft but also to be mindful when purchasing used items such as motors. Be wary of outboards that have been repainted, cosmetically altered, or have a tampered or missing serial number. When buying a used motor, the public can perform an online search through CPIC to determine if the item has been reported stolen,” reads a statement from Saanich Police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saanich Police Department at 250-475-4321 or report anonymously through the Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
