A team representing Canada’s veterans, first responders and their families arrived in Victoria today after an eight-day journey that took them across Vancouver Island.

The team kicked off the ninth annual Wounded Warrior Run last Sunday in Port Hardy and a week later, the runners celebrated the event’s completion when they arrived at Market Square in downtown Victoria.

It was a relay-style run with a mission to raise awareness and funds for Wounded Warriors Canada, which is a national mental health service provider for the country’s veterans and first responders.

The team not only covered the distance of the Island but also met with communities that they passed through in order to spread the word of their cause.

In 2022, the team passed through Sayward, Campbell River, Comox, Parksville, Port Alberni, Nanaimo, Duncan and Mill Bay, among others, on their way to Victoria.

The team is aiming to complete the relay-style run on Sunday, at 4:30 p.m. in Market Square.

Prior to their arrival in Victoria, the team will be running from Mill Bay to the top of Bear Mountain, before making stops at the Langford Legion, View Royal Fire Department and Afghanistan Memorial.

To date, they’ve raised over $148,000 to go towards supporting the mental health of first responders and Canadian veterans, with 100% of the funds raised staying on Vancouver Island.
