The United States Coast Guard says it has ended its search for a missing woman swept away from a beach in Washington state, south of Vancouver Island, after she was found dead.
The Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received a report around 10:50 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, of a 26-year-old woman who was swept by a current off a public beach, Rialto Beach, on the Pacific Ocean in Clallam County, according to the Coast Guard.
The beach is about 110 km from Port Angeles.
Later that day, around 5 p.m., Olympic National Park Rangers reported they had “found the body of a deceased person matching the description of the missing woman,” the Coast Guard says in a release Tuesday.
“Coast Guard helicopter aircrews searched approximately 51 square miles for over five hours,” the Coast Guard says, adding several police departments, as well as a search and rescue team, aided in the search.
