Saanich Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman while she was jogging along the Colquitz River Trail a week ago.

A woman in her 30s was jogging on the trail south of Columbine Way between 1:30-2 p.m. Sunday, March 27 ,when a stranger grabbed her from behind, police said in a news release.

He sexually assaulted her and she stumbled and fell to the ground, then he ran away toward the south part of the trail near Interurban Road, according to police.

The attacker is described as having light skin, six feet tall with a slim to medium build. He was reportedly wearing a dark baseball hat, a grey t-shirt and dark shorts.

“This was a frightening assault that was completely random,” Saanich Police spokesman Const. Markus Anastasiades said in a statement. “We’re hoping that someone may have been in the Colquitz trail system last Sunday that could help identify the suspect in this incident.”

Police are encouraging anyone jogging alone to carry a cell phone if possible and call police as soon as it’s safe to do so if they’re in danger.

Anyone with information on this assault is asked to call Saanich Police at 250-475-4321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
