Woman seen stealing stuffed giraffe donation in Langford comes forward

Staff at a Langford restaurant a woman who was seen taking a giraffe from a donation bin has come forward and offered to donate new toys.

Mr Mikes Steakhouse Casual restaurant is collecting stuffed toys to give to kids in the pediatric ward at the Victoria General Hospital.

But just after midnight on Sunday, a customer was caught on the restaurant’s surveillance camera walking off with a stuffed giraffe.

Staff said earlier Monday even if the giraffe is returned, they can’t donate it to the hospital as it has been outdoors and could have been exposed to different substances.

On Monday evening, the restaurant confirmed the woman had contacted the restaurant and had offered to replace the donation with new ones.

West Shore RCMP said the owner of the restaurant is not interested in filing a police report at this time.

Mr Mikes third annual stuffy drive is on Dec. 15. Anyone who donates on that day can receive a free appetizer.
