Port McNeill RCMP say suspect who fled from hospital now in custody

Port McNeill RCMP said a suspect who fled from hospital on Nov. 25, 2019, is in custody.

Police in Port McNeill say a suspect is in custody following an incident that sent three schools into lockdown Monday afternoon.

School District 85 said students at Cheslakees Elementary, Sunset Elementary and North Island Secondary were told to stay inside their schools just before dismissal time. The district said RCMP were looking for a suspect following a vehicle crash. Students were released to parents just before 4 p.m.

Three schools in Port McNeill were locked down on Nov. 25, 2019, after a crash.

Port McNeill RCMP said they were called to a motor vehicle incident at around 3 p.m. and a firearm was recovered. The suspect was identified but police said he fled to Port McNeill Hospital before officers arrived.

At around 6:20 p.m., police said the male suspect was in custody.
