A 52-year-old woman has died after being pulled from the water at a beach near Tofino Sunday morning.

The B.C. Ambulance Service, Parks Canada and the RCMP first responded following reports of women in distress at 10:30 a.m., at Long Beach in Pacific Rim National Park.

RCMP say bystanders found the woman and pulled her out of the water and started administering first aid.

Officials say no foul play is suspected, and the B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the death.

Mounties are warning the public of the dangers of going out into the ocean following the incident.

“The currents and waves are unpredictable,” said Cpl. Stu Hert of the Tofino RCMP. “[If the public is] going into the ocean… the onus is on them to educate themselves about the risks.”
