Environment Canada issued a wind warning Wednesday for north Vancouver Island.

The weather agency says southeast winds of 90 km/h gusting to 110 and possibly higher are expected for the north Island throughout Wednesday afternoon and night.

“A strong frontal system will track across Haida Gwaii today and onto the north coast this evening. Ahead of the front, strong southeast winds of 90 km/h gusting to 110 will develop this afternoon over exposed coastal sections from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy,” Environment Canada said in a statement.

The weather agency warns that high winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.
