A strong low-pressure system heading for the south-coast Sunday has resulted in a wind warning and special weather statements being issued by Environment Canada.

A wind warning for Greater Victoria says the system may bring southwest winds up to 70 km/h with gusts to 90 km/h early Sunday morning.

A special weather statement has also been issued for the Southern Gulf Islands, East and Inland Vancouver Island as the precise track of the low remains uncertain.

It also warns of strong wind gusts over the south coast.

The winds are expected to ease Sunday afternoon as the system moves inland.

Additional warnings may be issued as the storm nears.

The public is being reminded that buildings could be damaged to areas such as roof shingles and windows.

Loose objects may also be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.
