It could be a windy Sunday on Vancouver Island.
Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Greater Victoria. Special weather statements have also been issued for Tofino, western Vancouver Island, inland Vancouver Island as well as eastern Vancouver Island from Duncan to Campbell River.
According to the weather agency, wind speeds between 70 km/h to 90 km/h are expected to develop near Juan De Fuca Strait today.
“An intense Pacific cold front will cross Vancouver Island today. Strong westerly winds will develop in the wake of the front this afternoon, especially near Juan De Fuca Strait,” reads a statement on Environment Canada’s website.
The weather agency also says damage to buildings, such as roof shingles and windows, could occur as a result of today’s high wind speeds.
Wind speeds are expected to ease late Sunday evening.
