Mounties say a cellphone stolen in View Royal was tracked down to Victoria, with help from the victim’s Find my iPhone app.

West Shore RCMP says the cellphone was stolen in mid-November from the Elements Casino.

The victim told police that they had accidently left their phone at a slot machine, and when they returned to retrieve it the device was already gone.

Mounties reviewed surveillance video from the casino and identified a suspect swiping the phone.

The victim’s Find my iPhone app then helped police track the phone to a home in Victoria.

On Dec. 10, officers from the West Shore RCMP and VicPD executed a search warrant at the Victoria property.

Inside, police reportedly found the iPhone and a 19-year-old man was arrested for theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

The suspect has since been released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court next year.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
