A West Shore RCMP officer, performing regular patrol duties, took a woman into custody who had seven warrants out for her arrests.

According to police, the officer was making routine patrols in the area of Goldstream Avenue in Langford on March 23 when he stumbled upon a woman lighting the end of a glass pipe.

The officer believed the woman was consuming illicit drugs and proceeded to investigate the matter further.

Police say that as he approached the woman, she began to display concerning symptomology consistent with the use of illicit drugs and the officer called for an ambulance and additional officers to assist in the matter.

The woman was transported to hospital in order to receive further medical treatment as she was at risk of a possible drug overdose.

It was at this time that the officer was able to identify the woman and learned she had seven warrants out for her arrest from Victoria, Saanich, Sooke and West Shore files — mostly related to breaches or driving offences.

When the woman was cleared from the hospital, she was arrested for her warrants and brought into custody at the West Shore RCMP Detachment.

The suspect, a 35-year-old woman of Colwood remains in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
