West Shore RCMP have seized 36 replica firearms from a residence in Langford after executing a search warrant.

According to police, RCMP frontline officers executed the warrant at the home in the 600-block of Phelps Road after receiving a report of multiple firearms on the property. Police also added that a witness described one of the weapons to look like a prohibited machine gun.

After launching an investigation, officers learned that the tenant of the residence did not have a valid firearms license resulting in the execution of a search warrant on September 15.

RCMP said that upon execution of the warrant, investigators found and seized 36 replica firearms varying from assault style machine guns to hand guns. In addition, police seized a .303 rifle from the residence as well.

West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer, Constable Nancy Saggar, says that an investigation is ongoing as police further inspect the replicas.

Investigators are still examining the replica firearms to determine if any have been altered to perform like a real firearm. We do come across replica firearms which are not illegal to possess. However, the sheer quantity of replica firearms found openly laying around this home alongside a real .303 rifle is a public safety concern.

Police said that the suspect is a 62-year-old male who has a lengthy criminal record, along with other unrelated matters before the courts.

West Shore RCMP also say that firearm charges for the unauthorized possession of the rifle are pending.
