A Saanich man has been hit with a hefty fine after police say he was caught going well over the speed limit in Colwood.

West Shore RCMP say that around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, one of their officers clocked a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta going 100 km/h southbound on Ocean Boulevard in Colwood, twice the speed limit of 50 km/h.

The driver, a 23-year-old man from Saanich, was given a $368 ticket for speeding and three demerit points while his Jetta was impounded for seven days.

West Shore RCMP say Colwood’s Ocean Boulevard is considered a “hot spot” for speeding and therefore officers will continue to conduct speed enforcement along the roadway.

“You can expect to see our officers routinely conducting speed enforcement in this area along with other speeding hotspots identified in the West Shore,” Const. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP media relations officer, said in a media release.
