West Shore police service dog retiring from 911 calls

A West Shore RCMP police dog is moving into a new role after retiring from taking 911 calls.

Police dog Halla is a 7-year-old German Shepherd police patrol dog who is specialized in tracking, searching for evidence and detecting explosives.

In a release West Shore RCMP say that the dog has been serving for five years and has been to various calls in the West Shore and at her previous post in Kamloops.

Halla and her handler Cpl. Lewis will be moving to the RCMP National Reintegration Program, where they will assist officers in returning to duty following traumatic incidents.

West Shore RCMP’s police dog unit is made up of one Corporal and two Constables. A replacement for Halla has not yet been named.
