WATCH: Parksville swimmer Nicholas Bennett can now call himself a world champion, claiming gold on Monday in Manchester, England.
Bennett touched the wall first in the 200-metre freestyle S-14 at the Para Swimming World Championship, in a time of 1:54.75, just four one-hundredths of a second ahead of William Ellard of Great Britain. It is Bennett’s first world title and was one of four gold medals for Canada on day one of the meet.
