‘We keep building from the good:’ Pacific FC back in Langford for training

WatchAfter kicking off training with a week in Tofino, Pacific FC is back in the Westshore to start prepping for the 2020 Canadian Premiere League season.

Pacific FC is back in Langford as the team gets set to kick off its second season in less than a month. The boys in purple took to the Goudy Field turf for the first time this year on Monday, after spending a week training in Tofino.

The team enters the 2020 Canadian Premiere League season with something to prove. Looking to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump, the team has made some big changes in the offseason and hopes they will translate on the pitch.

Alejandro Diaz is one of those changes. The Mexico City native played last season with Club Atlético Zacatepec, and formerly played for top Mexican team Club América. Apart from having to adjust to cooler temperatures, Diaz is enjoying his time on the island.

“I came here and I get like a really good feeling, and I am like so surprised..because here it’s awesome. The people, the facilities, it’s all great..I’m really happy to be here and be a part of Pacific and play for Pacific.”

Diaz will join several returning players from last season, such as Victor Blasco. The Spaniard managed six goals and three assists in 26 appearances for the team. Blasco’s insight into the team’s struggles last year have him confident that things will improve in 2020.

“Most importantly is we learn from last year..You know from the bad things, and we keep building from the good…I think we’re going to keep building from last year, and it’s going to be for sure positive..”

Pacific F.C. gets its season started on April 11 against F.C. Edmonton at Westhills Stadium.
