It’s a whale of a tale for New Year’s Day.
At around 10 a.m., Edward Sinclair of Maple Bay captured video of a humpback whale swimming right near the boat ramp in the bay. It was two hours before the 2019 Maple Bay Polar Bear Swim in the same area.
“It was only about 15 feet offshore,” Sinclair said.
“It appeared to be scratching himself on the bottom.”
Sinclair said the whale swam along the shore under the pier and then continued on.
” I think all the swimmers would’ve been surprised to know a humpback whale was in the same water as they were two hours earlier,” Sinclair said.
