A BC Hydro crew rescued a young deer from icy waters near Vernon on Wednesday.

While travelling near Okanagan Lake, Ken Finlayson and Rob Asplin saw the head of a deer sticking out of the water. They confirmed the animal was having difficulty in the water by using binoculars.

The two, who were joined by three other men, used two separate boats to reach the deer. The group tried to put the animal in the shallow water, so it could make it out alone, but the deer was still too weak.

One of the men jumped out of the boat and hauled the animal to shore. The BC Hydro crew grabbed some blankets from their truck to warm it up. The deer was then placed in some bushes, with branches and blankets.

The deer was seen walking around the next morning.
