The Capital Regional District is advising the public to avoid entering the waters along some Greater Victoria shorelines after heavy rains caused stormwater and wastewater overflows.

A Wastewater Discharge notice was issued Saturday and says the following shorelines have been impacted:

  • Between Rutland Road (Oak Bay) and Seaview Road (Saanich) including Cadboro Bay.
  • Between Trafalgar Park and Radcliffe Lane including McNeill Bay in Oak Bay.
  • Between Fraser Street and Victoria View Road in Esquimalt.

The decision was made in consultation with Island Health and local municipalities.

The Wastewater may pose a health risk, and beaches within the affected areas will have public health advisory signs until sample results indicate enterococci levels are below the recreational limit.
