Another music festival has been cancelled on Vancouver Island.

On Thursday, Atomique Productions announced that the Rifflandia Festival will go on hiatus in 2019, with plans to revive the event for 2020.

The 12th year of the Rifflandia Festival was scheduled for Sept. 12 to 16, 2019, but Atomique Productions, which runs the event, said it will now run from Sept. 17 to 20, 2020.

In a statement posted to their website, Atomique Productions said the region’s “unique festival landscape” is evolving and “this requires our careful attention to that Rifflandia is able to thrive for years to come, alongside our artists, audience and partners.”

“We would like to extend a huge and heart felt thank you to everyone who has helped us create Rifflandia so far (you know who you are)! To our amazing city – thank you for growing and evolving with us!” Atomique Productions wrote.

Atomique Productions said all bird tickets can be refunded at point of purchase.

The annual Rifflandia has run every year since 2008. Other festivals on Vancouver Island have been cancelled due to a difficult market. Atomique announced in March Rock The Shores music festival would not be returning to the West Shore for this year. It also didn’t go ahead in 2017.

The Tall Tree Music Festival in Port Renfrew went on hiatus in 2018 due to market over-saturation and a low Canadian dollar.
