Victoria’s Atomic Vaudeville production ‘Ride the Cyclone’ earns prestigious theatre award nomination

A musical from Victoria-based creators is one of two Canadian productions up for what are billed as one of the oldest theatrical honours in the U-S.

The quirky, dark comedy, is among the nominees for a Drama League Award for outstanding production of a Broadway or off-Broadway musical.

The off-Broadway production, which closed in December, is from Atomic Vaudeville and is about students who die in a freak roller-coaster mishap.

It first played at the Belfry Theatre in Victoria in July 2011.

“Come From Away” — the Broadway musical set in Gander, Newfoundland in the aftermath of the 9-11 attacks — is nominated in the same category.
