A Victoria woman has been arrested in a drug trafficking investigation that spanned several months and led police to a home on Stotlou Road near Duncan.

On March 2, officers with the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP and the Vancouver Island RCMP Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant after gathering evidence of illicit activity at the home on Cowichan Tribes land.

The woman, 24, was on scene and arrested for possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, according to RCMP in a news release Tuesday.

“Officers from the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP were assisted by ERT officers in the execution of the search warrant,” said Cpl. Trevor March with RCMP’s street crime unit.

“While entering the residence, they encountered a sophisticated surveillance system and a door that was specifically designed to aid with the drug trafficking activity,” he said.

It was in December 2022 when Cowichan Tribes declared a local state of emergency amid a rise in overdoses and drug trafficking, police recall. That led RCMP to establish Project E-Provide, which aims to target and deal directly with these issues.

“Drug trafficking properties always have a significant negative impact on their neighbourhoods,” said March, adding officers involved in this latest investigation are committed to targeting people who set up and run such operations.

The investigation is ongoing.
