An armed man was taken into custody without incident after causing a disturbance in Esquimalt late last night.

Victoria police say multiple officers responded to the 600-block of Constance Avenue just before 11 p.m. for a report of a man in a vehicle armed with a knife.

Police, working with Island Health’s Integrated Mobile Crisis Response Team (IMCRT), were able to locate the man, stop his vehicle and take him into custody.

The man was transported to hospital for evaluation, the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

The IMCRT consists of child and youth mental health clinicians who work alongside adult mental health clinicians, social workers, nurses and plain-clothes police officers to provide a rapid community-based response to children, youth and families in crisis.
