Victoria Police shut down street to take person into custody

At least six police cruisers converged on a suspect to make an arrest outside of a hotel in James Bay.

Video obtained by CHEK shows the moments following an arrest that was made outside of the Helm’s Inn Hotel on Douglas Street, at around 11:20 p.m., Friday.

In it, a sedan can be seen with its front passenger tire on the sidewalk, driven into a street sign. Three cruisers surround the vehicle, for a total of six on scene.

The witness who submitted the video called it a “police takedown,” and described the scene as police forcing the suspect’s vehicle off the road.

Shortly after handcuffing the suspect, officers laid out several items across the suspect’s trunk before taking them into custody.

It isn’t clear at this time what elicited the heavy handed-response, and VicPD could not be reached for further comment.
