Victoria Police have arrested a man and seized a loaded shotgun following a vehicle stop in the Burnside Gorge last night.

Victoria Police have arrested a man and seized a loaded shotgun following a vehicle stop in the Burnside Gorge last night.

In a police report issued on Friday, officers said that at approximately 10:30 p.m. on September 10 they stopped a vehicle in the 100-block of Gorge Road East after observing a traffic offence.

The vehicle had three occupants, with one passenger in breach of a curfew condition stemming from previous offences. One of these previous offences included possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, according to Victoria Police.

The patrol officers arrested the man and searched the vehicle.

That is when they found the loaded 12-gauge shotgun, which was held in a badminton racquet case. In addition to the gun, officers seized ammunition, bear spray, knives and drugs.

Police said the man was immediately transported to cells.

He faces recommended charges including two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, six counts of failure to comply with a release order, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm knowing it’s possession is unauthorized, one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, one count of careless use of a firearm, and three counts of possession of a schedule 1 substance.
