Police in Victoria are seeking help from the public as they look to identify a suspect sought in an alleged theft and subsequent assault at a business in the Jubilee area.

The incident unfolded on Sept. 27 at around 5:30 p.m., moments before VicPD were called to the business in the 1900-block of Foul Bay Road.

Staff told police that a man had entered the store before placing merchandise in his bag and carrying a second piece of merchandise up to the till area.

“The man then left the second piece of merchandise at the till and attempted to leave the building with the original merchandise in his bag,” according to VicPD in a news release Wednesday.

“When a staff member moved to speak to him about the merchandise in his bag, the man suddenly assaulted the staff member and fled the store.”

Police say the staff member was not physically injured.

The suspect is described by VicPD as a Caucasian man, approximately 38 years old and standing at 5’10” with a slender build and short brown hair parted to one side.

He was clean-shaven at the time of the theft and wore rectangular frame eyeglasses, a grey hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and brown lace-up hiking boots. He also carried a black messenger-style bag.

Police have shared a still image of the suspect in hopes someone with information will come forward. VicPD’s report desk can be reached at 250-995-7654 extension 1.
