Victoria Police Department says a man wearing a red shirt vandalized the More Justice, More Peace mural in Bastion Square on Sept. 11.

A downtown Victoria mural was vandalized over the weekend.

According to the Victoria Police Department, the More Justice, More Peace mural in Bastion Square was vandalized with spray paint sometime before 8 p.m. on Sept. 11.

The suspect is described by police as a Caucasian man, who was wearing a black baseball cap, a red t-shirt, green camouflage pattern pants, and black shoes.

Police say the “ACAB” portion inside the letter S was covered up and “9/11 Never Forget”  was added in dark blue spray paint. The suspect then left the area, police said.

The inclusion of the “ACAB” acronym, which stands for “All Cops Are Bastards,” in the city-sponsored mural has generated some controversy since it first appeared. Victoria Police Chief Del Manak said last month that having the acronym inside the mural was “deeply disrespectful to the women and men” at the department.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the incident is asked to contact the Victoria Police Department’s non-emergency line at 250-995-7654 and select extension 1, or anonymously with Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
