Victoria Police Department says a man has been safely transported to hospital following an incident early Thursday morning.

Police say they were called to the 1200-block of Dallas Road at around 3:45 a.m. by a man in crisis.

The man, who called police himself, reported that he was in his vehicle armed with a knife. He told VicPD that he was trying to protect himself from others who were also in his vehicle attempting to harm him.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the man was alone in his vehicle with a knife and in crisis.

Officers parked their vehicles around the car so the man couldn’t drive away and shutdown nearby roads to other traffic.

As police worked to resolve the incident peacefully, the man began to damage his vehicle – stabbing seats and smashing a window resulting in self-inflicted injury.

The crisis intervention lasted just under two hours, according to VicPD.

At around 5:30 a.m. the man disarmed himself, exited the vehicle and officers were able to take him into custody without incident.

From there, he was transported to hospital.
